PORUS.... With Marshall McLuhan
PORUS.... With Marshall McLuhan

"At this moment, we are on the air.
We do not have any physical body…
When you don’t have a physical body, you’re a discarnate being.
You have a very different relation to the world around you...
The electric age has deprived people really of their identity.

Everybody has become porous.

The light and the message go right through us…”

MAKE SOME NOISE FOR THE RETURN OF MARSHALL MCLUHAN TO THE M.U.!

PORUS

In this instant Meaningwave classic, we bring back one of the 20th century’s most prescient media theorists, Marshall McLuhan.

The song, built around a sample from his 1977 interview on The Mike McManus Show, is a sonic meditation on identity, media, and the permeability of the modern self, AKA MASS MAN - for in in the electric age, observes McLuhan, we are becoming discarnate… we lose the solidity of our physical being and become pure signal.

MASS MAN is characterized not by individuality or agency but by constant exposure and absorption… In our media-saturated world, the individual is no longer distinct. He is - as has been noted on other songs in the Meaningwave cannon - a node… in a network. A vast communicative network. Messages flow through him rather than to him. He is no longer the member of an audience.

He is a conduit.

PORUS is out now on all platforms. STREAM AND DOWNLOAD on your platform of choice now!
