Perfection is impossible. What's perfect to you today will not be tomorrow. Because tomorrow, you will be different.
Realizing this was a massive event in my life, and freed me - I was now able to let go of what I'd been working on, and move on to the next thing. And in doing so, I'd always learn something new.
These days I release new music every single week, which means every single week I am learning, and evolving, and progressing. It also means every week my imperfections enter the world - those imperfections only making themselves know after the fact, when there isn't usually much I can do about it. Which is the way it should be.
My hyperproductivity experiment and extreme independence with regards to the release of the music means that not only have I abandoned the pursuit of perfection, thus becoming WAY BETTER at this than I would have otherwise, and creating WAY MORE than I would have otherwise... but it also means that I must move at such a speed that mistakes are an inevitability. There seems to be an error in every single thing I release. Most of these errors are unnoticeable, but this week's people picked up on immediately - the instrumental of the new single (the mighty and prescient INSIDE JOB ft. Paul Harvey) has vocals on it!
Last week the NFT art for JBPWAVE: Genesis was sold with a typo in the description, that is now permanently etched into the blockchain - making it even more rare.
The week before I discovered that one of the tracks from 2019's Jocko album The Path had an accidental extra bit of music at the end of one of that had somehow evaded my notice (or anyone else's) for two years. Fixing that error means that the album and single versions of the song are now counted together in Spotify, so the song, Discipline Equals Freedom now has 1,224,432 streams on that platform, making it our biggest song over there. Congratulations Jocko!
Sometimes I get frustrated. Running a record label and creating all the music, art, video and so on for it is an insane thing for a single human to be doing, and the side effect is a constant stream of catastrophes that light my way like perfectly timed explosions in my path. But each one is a lesson also, and when I realize that, and am grateful, life is magical and the future is nothing but effervescent potential.
We'll be celebrating that on stream tonight from 8:30 CT, so come join us if you can. Meanwhile, enjoy the new single, enjoy this week's new music video for the instant Meaningwave classic, MEDIUM IS THE MASSAGE with Marshall McLuhan, and in light of the continued threats to the internet, make sure you DOWNLOAD the music you love, as the multiple site collapses and breaches this week have demonstrated irrefutably yet again that we really cannot be relying on streaming platforms of the music that sustains us!
SEE YOU SOON!
LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
