“Suffering is the enemy
Negativity is the enemy of creativity
It's common sense
If someone is depressed
They say they don't even feel like getting out of bed
Let alone working
If you're sad or if you're filled with bitter anger
That occupies the mind
Maybe you do angry painting
So what?
You can do angry paintings, but be happy in the doing
You don't have to suffer
To show suffering…”
Welcome back to the Meaningwave Universe, the incomparable David Lynch!
The beloved artist and director is back With a follow up to 2024’s classic KALI YUGA, with a timely and infinitely useful reminder..
YOU DON’T HAVE TO SUFFER
This was the final track I recorded in Don Studios, Mexico, before leaving for Nashville. I completed it the night before I got on the plane to the USA, upon which I unplugged my equipment, packed it into crates, and set off for a new life…
That 'life is as kind as you let it be' maxim I found in one of Charles Bukowski's short stories was the lightbulb ignition that led to me deciding to move my family to the USA back in 2013... and so it is fitting, I realize in hindsight, that this similar and similarly radically useful sentiment set me on my way as I returned to the USA after those five unexpected years in Mexico.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO SUFFER
...Is out now on all platforms.
SPEAKING OF WHICH!
Mammadon and the cat are back from finishing Mexico, and our family has finally been reunited. I have begun work on the new Don Studios, simultaneously constructing a new recording studio, streaming studio, and video production unit on site.
We have been reunited with all of our stuff that's been waiting for us in the storage unit in Texas for so many years... It really has been something of an extended Christmas, as all these amazing treasures I had learned to live without these past five years reintroduced themselves to me, emerging from piles of packaging paper and moving blankets, blinking in the daylight after years in darkness… I can't wait to get playing with them all again...
But first I must get through this construction phase, which is simultaneously frustrating and joyful, as all I want to do is get back to work... but at the same time it really is a wonderful thing to get to work with one's hands and create and build something physical (and cause oneself myriad injuries)… and once it's done, it's done.
As soon as I have the streaming studio setup, you will be notified of a new stream... until then, enjoy the new single!
LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
