Akira and Chandler had the idea to collaborate on music after the latter revealed himself to be a massive Meaningave fan, saying he exclusively listens to Akira’s work during his training camps.COMFORT ZONES ARE POISON was written during one of those camps - while preparing for his upcoming fight against Paddy Pimblett at UFC 314, Chandler was inspired to write some words, record them into his phone, and send them to Akira, with the note,
“Wrote this and recorded it for you to play around with to get the juices flowing.”
Instantly inspired, Akira wrote the music and the chorus, and sent it back requesting a second verse, which soon showed up, audibly imbued with fight camp intensity.
“The shape of it came instantly, after hearing Michael’s words, “says Akira, from his jungle lair in Mexico. “I then took some time chiseling the thing into the supersonic symphony it was in my head.”
“I was excited to work with Chandler for many reasons,” continues Akira. “Primarily, he embodies so much of what we’ve been discussing throughout this whole Meaningwave experiment slash conversation. Meaningwave is a constant oscillation between thinking about ideas from various perspectives, and then how to put them into practice. Chandler is truly putting the messages of Meaningave into practice.”
“It’s great music, it’s speaking to your soul,” said Chandler,speaking with Helen Yee ahead of his fight at UFC 314. “It’s motivating you. It’s great to work out to. In fact, I’m about to go hit the bike in the sauna. I’ll be listening to Akira The Don.”
